Soil Fertility Status and Response of Rice to Soil Amendments: Improvement of Rice Productivity Through Rainwater Harvesting and Soil Amendments
Rwehumbiza F.b.
In semi arid areas of Tanzania, rainfed lowland rice production is constrained by inadequate plant nutrients and soil moisture thus restricting plant growth culminating into very low yields. With the adoption of appropriate rainwater harvesting technologies, the soil moisture stress is significantly alleviated. This book demonstrates an effort to improve soil fertility in rainfed lowland rice production in semi arid areas of Tanzania using locally available resources. It also demonstrates the use of El-Niño-Southern Oscillation indices in predicting seasonal rainfall which is an important factor in rainfed lowland rice production. The target groups for the book are primarily ministries, departments, agencies, professionals and non governmental organizations responsible for promoting rainfed lowland rice production and ensuring food security in semi arid areas of Eastern and Southern Africa
