Deren's quest to make war on the Supremacy is underway as she gathers her army and navy and cavalry from the adventure-hungry young warriors of Doggerland and Nalgai. The Widows of Ossrig find their new home in the Flagstone Isles and a new future to share with the wide-eyed lads of The Bottoms, who join them on wild, mystical Isle Talisen, where little Treligo and the lads save a baby bear from angry eagles. One of the Dunisbars finds a new home on a distant island where The Folk await their salvation from a cruel and evil queen and her drunken son. Life in the Isles will get even busier for all of them before it is over in this, the last chapter of the second trilogy. It will be the end of one royal house forever and the birth of a new one.
