The Balloon-Seller and Other Tales
Re Narayan Rao
Truth be told. I do not believe in importance of giving a description, preface, or introduction to a book. Readers who read a book without directly plunging into its heart, are secondary readers. They end up having an opinion of what they read even before they attempt to do so. But on the other hand, we have readers who directly read a poem, story, or novel. It is these readers who have the opportunity to take unique perspectives that are no less equivalent to the creative fecundity with which the book has been written. A preface or introduction is political because it is interpretation by a critic, a scholar, or the writer himself. That is because "every interpretation is misinterpretation", as Prakash Kona posits. That is why an unapologetic perspective is always better and sustainable.
