Documentary that makes use of unprecedented access to follow life in the New York Times newsroom for a year. The New York Times is arguably the most important newspaper in the world; it is certainly one of the best read and most influential newspapers in the United States. Filmmaker Andrew Rossi was granted rare access to the internal workings of the newspaper for this documentary, where he captures the frantic nature of professional journalism as stories erupt and advances in technology continually force the paper to adapt.

In particular, the story of crusading journalist David Carr is picked up. Carr attends closely to the threat of social media and internet technology to the kind of professional, newsroom-based journalism of the New York Times and offers a staunch defence of his paper and the print media it represents.
